- Jack has lived in London and Bavaria and traveled to over 30 countries across Europe, Asia, and North America.
- It's a struggle to pin down his favorites, but he loves London, New Orleans, and San Sebastian.
- Jack knows all about out-of-season travel after he and a few friends camped in minus temperatures and 40 mph winds on the shore of Loch Avon in Scotland's Cairngorms National Park.
Experience
Writing has few upfront costs and can be done almost anywhere, which is why Jack writes on the move, filing copy from the heart of Spain to the tip of Tallinn. If there's internet, there's an office, no matter if it's a train, bus, ship, cafe, hostel, or skyscraper. Jack has written this way for years now, and while domesticity can be appreciated, the pull of a new town, city, or landmark is never far away. Jack joined Static Media in 2021; in addition to Islands, he has written for Looper, Grunge, Tasting Table, and SlashGear. While he enjoys historical research, film criticism, and literature, his most gratifying work may be travel writing. In the spring of 2024, he traversed the English capital, interviewing landlords and bar staff for his Tasting Table feature, "The 16 Most Distinctive Pubs in London."
Education
Jack has a bachelor's degree in English and a master's degree in military history. He studied in Chester, a Cathedral city in northern England renowned for its Roman and Medieval history.
